Questions & answers Ask a question Q: Why would someone have to wait 16hours in an emergency room recieving no proper treatment from medical staff whilst waiting for a transfer? Your hospital doesn't even have the staff to treat behavioral health so why would you admit one with such?A: The only reason something like that would happen is if you went to the ER and were evaluated as a threat to yourself or others. That would be ANY ER whether the hospital as a psych unit or not. Once that happens they can’t just let you leave, you have to be transferred to an appropriate facility. How long that takes is not in control of the emergency room.
