Jessica Orkin Jessica Orkin Ithaca, New York Details
Jessica Orkin's The Conway School Experience As a student at The Conway School we work with real world clients on real world projects. Each student at Conway is assigned one project per semester, completing three projects total by the end of the 10 month program. The first project is an individual project focusing on either residential or community sites, the second is a group project usually with a planning focus, in my case the project I worked on had a public relations component, and the third project is usually a master landscape plan for community related organizations. While we are working on researching, analyzing, and compiling information about our assigned project site and client goals, we are also taking classes in site design, digital design, humanities, ecology, and attending lectures of professionals in our field, incorporating aspects of our lessons into plan sets for the clients. As students we also give weekly presentations to our teachers and our peers. The presentation aspect is an important part of being a student at Conway, we are able to compile our weekly progress into a presentation receiving feedback and questions that help move us forward with best design practices for each individual site, all the while educating ourselves and our classmates on our design process. In this way students at Conway are both teaching and learning from each other and each others projects in very dynamic ways.Graduate StudentConway School of Landscape DesignApril 2013 - June 2013
